Rare Nazi German NSDAP Third reich 1934 Austrian July Putsch Martyrs “Treue um Treue” Propaganda Postcard

Scarce 1934-era Austrian National Socialist memorial propaganda postcard commemorating participants killed or executed in connection with the July Putsch of July 25, 1934, the failed Austrian Nazi coup during which Austrian Chancellor Engelbert Dollfuss was assassinated.

The card is especially desirable because it presents a large montage of 13 named portraits, several showing the men in Austrian military, police, or paramilitary-style uniforms. At center is the period political eagle and swastika emblem, while the lower portion depicts a symbolic military cemetery with crosses and a memorial wreath.

The large Gothic inscription reads:

“Treue um Treue!”
Translation: “Loyalty for Loyalty!” / “Faithfulness for Faithfulness!”

The imagery belongs to the martyr-cult propaganda that developed around those killed or executed following the failed 1934 coup. Contemporary historical references specifically identify Otto Planetta and Franz Holzweber as leaders in the seizure of the Austrian Federal Chancellery; Planetta was involved in the shooting of Chancellor Dollfuss. The coup collapsed after failing to obtain sufficient military and police support, and several of its principal participants were subsequently executed.

The postcard is unused and unmailed with divided postcard back. Printer/reference number “41/004” appears near the dividing line.

There is a noticeable diagonal crease running across the reverse and corresponding front area, along with normal age toning, handling and minor edge/corner wear. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition.
