Rare original Third Reich-era anti-Semitic propaganda leaflet or period clipping featuring a caricature signed “Fips,” the pseudonym of German cartoonist Philipp Rupprecht.

Rupprecht (1900–1975) became the principal caricaturist for Julius Streicher’s notorious anti-Semitic newspaper Der Stürmer. Beginning in 1925, his distinctive drawings became one of the publication’s most recognizable features and were deliberately used to reinforce anti-Jewish stereotypes and National Socialist propaganda.

The front is headed “Frage” (“Question”) and depicts four men in a street scene. The caricature bears the recognizable “Fips” signature in the lower-right corner.

The German caption reads:

“Was is eigentlich Idealismus? — Etwas, das die Andern haben, aber wir nie haben möchten, — es werd wenig daran verdient.”

Approximate English translation:

“What actually is idealism? — Something that others have, but which we would never want to have — there is little money to be made from it.”

The reverse is especially interesting, retaining a substantial portion of an article printed in period Fraktur type. The surviving text discusses Jews, Christianity, the Roman emperor Nero, and Antiochus IV, presenting historical material through an explicitly anti-Semitic ideological framework. At the bottom is a large partial slogan beginning:

“Geht nur zu deutschen Aer…”

The piece appears to have been cut from a larger publication, making it an interesting surviving example of printed propaganda ephemera rather than a modern standalone print. Comparable surviving material demonstrates how Fips cartoons were widely incorporated into Der Stürmer and related propaganda publications.

Approximate size: 5.5″ x 3.5″.

Shows expected age and handling with light toning and minor edge/corner wear. The printing remains bold and the Fips signature is clearly visible. Please inspect all photographs for exact condition and content.

An unusual historical artifact for collectors of Third Reich propaganda, Der Stürmer material, German political cartoons, Philipp Rupprecht/Fips artwork, WWII paper ephemera, and antisemitism/Holocaust-era historical material. Offered strictly as an original historical collectible documenting the propaganda and prejudices of the period.
