The reverse also identifies them as “Echte Fotografie” (genuine photography).
Photo 1 – President Körner Inspecting the Honor Guard
A particularly impressive image showing President Theodor Körner walking directly alongside a long formation of Austrian soldiers standing at attention.
The troops are shown in excellent detail wearing early postwar Austrian uniforms and steel helmets, with rifles held vertically at the shoulder. Numerous uniform and equipment details are clearly visible.
The background includes a building undergoing reconstruction with a sign reading “WIEDERAUFBAU” (“Reconstruction”), providing an interesting visual reminder of Austria’s post-WWII rebuilding period.
Photo 2 – Körner Greeting an Austrian Officer
The second photograph captures President Körner shaking hands with a helmeted Austrian officer in front of the assembled honor guard.
Several other officers are visible, including one rendering a salute. The long formation of rifle-bearing troops continues into the background, making this an exceptionally strong ceremonial military image.
Theodor Körner
Theodor Körner (1873–1957) was an Austrian military officer and Social Democratic politician who became President of Austria in 1951, serving until his death in 1957.
Before entering politics, Körner had a lengthy military career and served as an officer in the Austro-Hungarian Army during World War I, eventually reaching senior command and staff positions. His military background makes these photographs of him reviewing and greeting uniformed troops especially interesting.
These photographs would date from Körner’s presidency, circa 1951–1957, and appear connected with an official visit to Klagenfurt, Carinthia.
