DNSAP stands for Danmarks Nationalsocialistiske Arbejderparti, translated as the National Socialist Workers’ Party of Denmark.

Founded in 1930, the DNSAP was Denmark’s principal National Socialist political organization. Its ideology, visual identity and organizational structure were heavily influenced by Germany’s NSDAP. The Danish party adopted the swastika as a central political emblem and employed uniforms, rallies, publications, posters, labels and other propaganda material in an effort to build popular support.

The party became particularly associated with Frits Clausen, who assumed its leadership in 1933.

Despite its ideological similarities with German National Socialism, the DNSAP remained a relatively small political movement and never achieved the broad electoral following enjoyed by its German counterpart.

The political situation changed dramatically when German forces invaded Denmark on April 9, 1940. Denmark remained under German occupation until May 1945.

The DNSAP hoped that occupation would provide an opportunity to increase its influence and political power. However, even under these extraordinary circumstances, it failed to gain widespread support among the Danish population.

In the March 1943 Danish parliamentary election, held during the occupation, the DNSAP received only a small share of the national vote and secured three parliamentary seats, demonstrating the limited extent of its popular support.
