Original 1933 German Berlin cemetery document and large fold-out grave plot plan relating to a family burial plot at Parkfriedhof Lichterfelde in Berlin.
The main document is headed:
“Urkunde über den Erwerb des Nutzungsrechts an einer Familiengrabstelle”
Translation:
“Certificate concerning the acquisition of the right of use of a family grave plot.”
The certificate appears to have been issued to Erika Pofß/Poß and concerns a family grave site at the municipal cemetery in Berlin-Lichterfelde. It is dated October 25, 1933 and bears an original Stadt Berlin – Bezirksamt Steglitz municipal ink stamp together with an official signature.
The document records a substantial payment of 1,500 Reichsmarks and states that the burial right could extend for up to 60 years, with a handwritten expiration date in 1993. Two names are entered in the section specifying who was to be buried in the family plot.
Especially interesting is the attached large hand-drawn cemetery plan, titled:
“Parkfriedhof Lichterfelde, Familiengrabstätten oberer Waldteil”
Translation: “Lichterfelde Park Cemetery, Family Grave Plots, Upper Woodland Section.”
The plan is dated Berlin-Steglitz, October 24, 1933, one day before the certificate, and signed/approved by the Bezirks-Gartendirektor (District Garden Director). It shows the layout of the cemetery section with numerous individual family plots identified by surname and size, including the subject Poß/Pofß plot, which is unusually highlighted in yellow at the right side of the plan.
Also attached is a printed extract from the Berlin municipal cemetery regulations dated January 29, 1932, explaining the rules governing family burial plots, their maintenance, duration of use, burials, planting and cemetery furnishings.
This is a particularly interesting and visually impressive piece of pre-WWII Berlin municipal and genealogical history, combining an official certificate, city seal, handwritten entries, cemetery regulations and a large detailed plot map in one surviving group.
Condition
Original used condition with expected age and storage wear. There are numerous original folds, creases, edge wear, small tears and some separation/wear along fold lines. The certificate has heavier creasing toward the lower portion. The large plan remains highly displayable and retains the handwritten plot names, official annotations and highlighted family grave location. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition.
Original 1933 period document — not a reproduction.
