Very cool tiny Miniature German 1870–1871 Franco-Prussian War Victory Medal – Deutsches Reich

Very cool tiny miniature German Franco-Prussian War commemorative medal, an unusually small version of the 1870–1871 campaign/victory medal associated with the creation of the German Empire.

The obverse features the distinctive Iron Cross-style design surrounded by rays, with a central laurel wreath and the dates “1870 1871.”

The reverse carries a crowned “W” above the German inscription “Dem siegreichen Heere” (“To the victorious army”), surrounded by additional German lettering. The full-size medal was instituted under Kaiser Wilhelm I following the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–71.

What makes this example particularly interesting is its extremely small miniature format. The photograph alongside a U.S. dime clearly demonstrates just how tiny it is. It retains the integral suspension loop at the top and has an attractive aged gold/brass-colored finish.

A fascinating little piece of Imperial German military history and an excellent addition to a collection of miniature medals, Franco-Prussian War material, Imperial German awards or early German militaria.

Condition: Original aged condition with surface wear, toning and marks consistent with age. Suspension loop remains present. Please examine the detailed photographs, including the dime comparison, for exact size and condition.
