Mounted above the Iron Cross is the distinctive 1939 Spange, consisting of a German eagle and wreath above the “1939” date bar. The 1939 repeat clasp was associated with recipients who had previously earned the Iron Cross during World War I and subsequently qualified for the corresponding Iron Cross award again during World War II.
