WW2 Nazi German 1940 Kärtner Köpfe Third Reich Postcard Dr. Gabriel Engler Mountain Guide

Original 1940 German portrait postcard from the “Kärntner Köpfe” (Carinthian Heads) series, featuring Dr. Gabriel Engler, identified on the reverse as a Kärntner Bergführer — Carinthian mountain guide.

The front features an excellent color portrait of Engler wearing traditional Alpine mountain clothing and hat while holding an ice axe/pick, giving the card particularly strong mountaineering and Alpine interest. The artwork is signed “Engler 1940” in the image.

The printed identification on the reverse reads:

“Dr. Gabriel Engler: ‘Kärntner Köpfe’
Kärntner Bergführer, Karawanken.”

Translation:

“Dr. Gabriel Engler: ‘Carinthian Heads’
Carinthian Mountain Guide, Karawanken.”

The Karawanken (Karawanks) are the Alpine mountain range along the present-day Austrian-Slovenian border.

The card was published by:

“Verlag: Volksbund für das Deutschtum im Ausland, W 8 u. Berlin”

The reverse also carries the distinctive VDA / Volksbund für das Deutschtum im Ausland emblem incorporating a swastika, along with the printed marking “P 1 K 40 Nr. 3.” Card number 471 appears at lower left.

This is a particularly attractive period postcard combining Austrian/Carinthian regional history, Alpine mountaineering, traditional dress and Third Reich-era VDA publishing history.

Condition: Unmailed with no message. Light age toning, minor handling/edge wear and a small corner crease at lower right. Overall displays very nicely for its age. Please examine all photographs for exact condition.
