Very interesting item for the WHW collectors!

Original wartime German Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes (WHW) commercial order and invoice from the 1941/42 WHW campaign, dated 22 May 1941.

This is an especially interesting piece of Third Reich economic and WHW history because it documents an actual large-scale order for 2,000 wooden WHW pieces connected with the famous Erzgebirge wood and toy-making industry.

At the top is the German national eagle and swastika with “WHW 1941/42”, followed by:

“Auftrag und Rechnung”
Order and Invoice

The document states:

“Im Namen des Winterhilfswerkes des Deutschen Volkes, Berlin, werden geliefert:”
“On behalf of the Winter Relief Organization of the German People, Berlin, the following are to be supplied:”

The main order reads:

“2000 Stück Rohware Nr. 4 – Schwälmer Bäuerin”
“2,000 pieces unfinished/raw item No. 4 – Schwälmer Peasant Woman.”

The price is listed as RM 13.13 per 1,000 pieces, for a total of RM 26.26.

Of particular interest are the original period company stamps. The upper-right manufacturer’s field is stamped:

Inh.: Carl Werner
Holzwarenfabrik
Olbernhau i. Sa.

This identifies the manufacturer as a wooden-goods factory in Olbernhau, Saxony, an important center of the Erzgebirge woodworking industry.

At bottom is another excellent period stamp:

Julius Gläser
engros Spielwaren Export
Zöblitz i. Erzgeb.

This translates approximately as “Julius Gläser – Wholesale Toy Export – Zöblitz in the Erzgebirge.” Julius Gläser is documented as a Zöblitz producer/dealer of wooden toys; a rare circa-1930 Julius Gläser catalog contained numerous Erzgebirge wooden toys and figures.

The handwritten payment section reads:

“Bezahlt am: 22. Mai 1941” – Paid on May 22, 1941
“durch Scheck Nr.: 72952” – By check No. 72952

The left perforated margin states:

“Bezahlung erfolgt nur gegen Rückgabe dieses Formulares”
“Payment will only be made upon return of this form.”

An excellent original document showing the commercial side of the WHW Winterhilfswerk, including the commissioning of thousands of wooden pieces from the traditional Erzgebirge toy-making region. The multiple manufacturer/dealer stamps, handwritten accounting information, eagle/swastika heading and precise 1941 date make this considerably more interesting than a standard blank WHW form.

The Julius Gläser connection is particularly collectible: period evidence places the firm in Zöblitz’s wooden toy trade, including a documented 1930 catalog and a 1932 postcard identifying Spielwaren Julius Gläser.

Condition: Very nice original used condition for its age with period handwriting, ink stamps, punched holes and expected light handling/storage wear. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition.
