Original Third Reich-era Deutsche Reichsbahn document group, consisting of an official Deutsche Reichsbahn window envelope together with its surviving original paperwork and accounting documents. The envelope bears clear Deutsche Reichsbahn printing, official postal/cancellation markings dated 05.1.42, and an official ink-stamped marking.
This is an especially interesting intact group because the original contents remain together and provide a glimpse into the everyday financial and administrative workings of the German railway system and associated agricultural economy during WWII.
Included are several period pieces, including:
- Original Deutsche Reichsbahn official window envelope with 1942 cancellation
- Large folding monthly “Abrechnung für Monat” accounting/settlement sheet with numerous handwritten entries
- Reichsbahn-related typed notice headed “An die Empfänger von Versorgungsbezügen” concerning payment statements, deductions and the Reichsbahn-Spar- und Darlehenskasse savings and loan fund
- Accounting/payment slip for Georg Puckhaber, Hambergen, associated with Molkerei-Genossenschaft Wallhöfen
- Additional printed slip addressed to Frau Puckhaber, geb. Müller
- Period dairy/cooperative financial calculations involving milk deliveries, butter, skim milk, deductions and payment amounts
The typed Reichsbahn notice roughly translates:
“To recipients of pension/support payments: Enclosed is a settlement statement showing total payments and individual deductions. In the future these statements will be sent monthly through the station cash offices. For deductions listed under ‘Reichsbahn Savings Bank,’ the Reichsbahn Savings and Loan Fund will gradually prepare individual settlement statements during the course of the year, which will then be sent at the same time. Questions concerning these statements should be directed immediately to the Reichsbahn Savings and Loan Fund.”
The large accounting form is particularly detailed, retaining extensive handwritten blue-ink figures and printed columns relating to milk quantities, butter, dairy products, deductions, cooperative shares and final payment calculations. The documents appear connected to the Puckhaber family of Hambergen and a local Molkerei-Genossenschaft (dairy cooperative).
A very interesting WWII German home-front and Deutsche Reichsbahn archival grouping that is far more complete than a loose railway envelope alone. Excellent material for collectors interested in the Deutsche Reichsbahn, German railway history, WWII civilian administration, wartime economics, postal history, financial documents and Third Reich-era ephemera.
Condition: Original used condition with expected age toning, folds, creases, staining, edge wear, small tears/holes and general handling wear. The envelope shows heavier wear consistent with postal use and storage. Documents remain highly displayable with much of the printing, handwriting, cancellations and markings clearly visible. Everything included is shown in the photographs; please examine all images carefully for exact contents and condition.
