WW2 Nazi German Third Reich Nürnberg Postcard Photo RPPC Pegnitz 1936 Special Cancel Stamp

Original pre-WWII German postcard showing a picturesque view of Nürnberg (Nuremberg) and its historic buildings along the Pegnitz River.

The printed caption reads:

“Nürnberg – Alte Häuser a. d. Pegnitz”
Translation: “Nuremberg – Old Houses on the Pegnitz.”

The reverse has an attractive Nürnberg city design with the city coats of arms and period Third Reich symbolism. It is franked with a 6 Pfennig Deutsches Reich commemorative stamp featuring the Nürnberg cityscape and eagle/swastika design. The stamp appears to have a Nürnberg cancellation, making this a particularly nice piece of genuine period postal history.

The card was actually mailed and handwritten, rather than being an unused souvenir example. The address appears to be to Frau Rahm in Pirmasens, Kardinalstraße 29. The handwritten message is somewhat faint and difficult to decipher completely.

The photograph is especially interesting as a prewar architectural record of old Nuremberg, a city whose historic center suffered enormous destruction during Allied bombing in WWII. Views such as this preserve the appearance of the old riverside buildings before the wartime destruction and subsequent reconstruction.

Features attractive deckle/scalloped edges typical of period photographic postcards.

Condition: Good original used condition with normal age toning, light staining/soiling, handwriting and edge/corner wear. Please see all photographs for exact condition.
