WW2 Nazi German1944 Vienna Police Railway Travel Permit Polizeipräsident Wien Eagle & Swastika Stamp

Original late-war German police railway travel authorization document, issued in Vienna on November 9, 1944 by “Der Polizeipräsident in Wien” through Polizeiamt Leopoldstadt.

The document is titled:

“Bescheinigung zur Benutzung der Eisenbahn”
Translation: “Certificate for the Use of the Railway.”

It was issued to Fräulein Agnes Haider, with her Vienna address handwritten as Wien II, Radlingerstr. 21. The authorization permitted railway travel from Vienna to Althart-Zlabings.

The stated Reisegrund (reason for travel) appears to read:

“Ungarnaktion (Bombenschaden)”
Approximately: “Hungary action/operation (bomb damage).”

This is particularly interesting late-war wording and suggests the journey was connected with official wartime activity associated with bomb damage.

The printed regulations state that the certificate authorized the purchase of railway tickets only for the specified journey and was valid in conjunction with photographic identification. Misuse was subject to criminal prosecution.

A major feature is the large blue Polizeipräsident Wien / Polizeiamt Leopoldstadt official ink seal bearing a prominent Third Reich eagle and swastika, along with an official signature. The document is dated only months before the end of the war in Europe.

Condition: Original used condition with substantial period wear. There are tears and paper losses along the left edge, notches and tears along the upper edge, creasing, age toning, small edge splits and general handling wear.
