WWI 1916 Dortmund Postcard German Students Org Group w Medieval Knight Statue

Original World War I German postcard, mailed from Dortmund on April 18, 1916.

The front is a striking photographic view showing a group of German students or members of a student association gathered beneath a large Gothic arch beside an impressive medieval knight statue. Several of the young men wear matching caps and ceremonial sashes, and a large decorated association flag or banner is displayed beside the statue.

The reverse bears a 5 Pfennig Deutsches Reich Germania postage stamp with a clear DORTMUND 18.4.16 cancellation. The card is addressed to Fräulein Johanna Hoffmann in Dortmund and contains a handwritten German message.

The scene is especially interesting for collectors of Imperial Germany, WWI home-front material, German student associations, uniforms, flags and early photographic postcards.

Condition is as shown with typical age and postal wear.
