WWI German Austria 1915 Propaganda Postcard Hände Weg Deutscher Heimaterde Father Son

Original WWI-era Austrian patriotic propaganda postcard, circa 1915, featuring a striking color illustration of a father and son standing protectively before their rural homeland, with farmland, a village church and countryside in the background.

The large German inscription reads:

“Hände weg von deutscher Heimaterde”

Translation:

“Hands off German homeland soil” / “Hands off the German homeland.”

This slogan was used on Austrian/German patriotic postcards during the First World War. An archival description of this imagery identifies it as a WWI propaganda color lithograph from Austria dating to around 1915.

The imagery is strongly symbolic: the father stands with a clenched fist while keeping his other arm protectively around his son, representing defense of the family, farmland and homeland. Similar surviving examples are specifically cataloged as “Vater mit seinem Kind” (father with his child) and “Hände weg von deutscher Heimaterde.”

The reverse is unused/unmailed with no handwriting, stamp or cancellation. At the bottom is the printer identification:

“Hermes-Druckerei, Wien XVII.”
Hermes Printing Works, Vienna, 17th District.

A very attractive example with strong WWI Austrian patriotic, rural homeland and propaganda imagery, and excellent period color.

Condition shows expected age and light handling wear, with some minor corner/edge wear as pictured. The front colors remain particularly attractive. Please review all photographs for exact condition.
