WWI German Austria Linz Kaiser Franz Josef Platz Postcard 1916 10 Heller Stamp

Original WWI-era Austrian color postcard showing Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Platz in Linz an der Donau, Austria. This is an especially attractive pre-1918 city-view card with a busy street scene showing electric trams, horse-drawn vehicles, market stalls, pedestrians, period architecture, and the prominent monument in the square.

The printed caption reads:

“LINZ a. d. D., Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Platz”

Meaning:

“Linz on the Danube, Kaiser Franz Josef Square.”

The card was postally used during World War I and bears an attractive 10 Heller Imperial Austrian postage stamp depicting the Austrian Imperial Crown. The stamp is tied by a period machine cancellation. A handwritten 1916 notation is also visible at lower right.

The reverse contains an extensive handwritten message in old German cursive/Kurrent. Portions are difficult to decipher confidently from the handwriting, but it appears to be ordinary personal correspondence rather than an official military message.
