WWI German Heavy Field Howitzer Artillery Soldiers Feldpost Photo Postcard 1915

Original World War I German military postcard dated February 6, 1915, featuring an excellent image of a German artillery crew gathered around a heavy field howitzer during a pause in firing.

The printed German caption at the top reads:

“Schwere Feld-Haubitze. Feuerpause.”

Translation:

“Heavy Field Howitzer – Pause in Firing.”

The photograph shows a large group of Imperial German soldiers posed in the field around the artillery piece, with its large wooden-spoked wheels clearly visible. Several additional soldiers can be seen farther back in the field. The scene provides a particularly nice view of an early-war German artillery crew, uniforms, field equipment and heavy artillery.

The reverse is handwritten and dated:

“6.2.15” – February 6, 1915

It is addressed to Frau Martha Päp… (surname difficult to read with certainty) in Schmalkalden, at Anergasse 28.

The message begins “Liebe Martha!” (“Dear Martha!”) and appears to send greetings/wishes to Martha. Some of the old German handwriting is difficult to decipher with certainty, so please examine the close-up photographs.

The postcard was published by Kunst- u. Verlagsanstalt Schaar & Dathe, Komm.-Ges. a. Akt., Trier and is numbered Nr. 93.
