WWI German Red Cross Charity Postcard Children Mock Battle w Flags Feldpost 1916

Very interesting Original WWI German Red Cross charity postcard featuring a remarkable staged scene of children reenacting a battlefield.

The image shows a large group of children portraying soldiers, nurses and wounded men. Several carry German Imperial black-white-red flags, while others hold toy rifles, swords and improvised weapons. Children dressed as nurses tend to the “wounded” lying on the ground, creating a very unusual WWI home-front scene.

The reverse is printed:

“Wohlfahrtskarte zum Besten des Roten Kreuzes”

Translation: “Charity card for the benefit of the Red Cross.”

The card originally sold for 10 Pfennig. It is postally used as a Feldpostkarte, with handwritten wartime correspondence and a clear postal cancellation dated March 16, 1916.

Printed by Knackstedt & Co., Hamburg 22.

A particularly interesting WWI postcard combining German Red Cross fundraising, children, military reenactment, Imperial flags, battlefield imagery and wartime postal history.

Condition is as shown with normal age-related edge and corner wear, light surface wear and signs of postal use.
