WWI German Reichs-Spende Veterans Charity Postcard Soldiers Schwormstädt 1918

Original WWI German Reichs-Spende charity postcard featuring the artwork “Am häuslichen Herd im Feindesland” by F. Schwormstädt.

The colorful scene depicts German soldiers making themselves at home around a fireplace or hearth while serving in enemy territory. One soldier tends the fire, another chops wood, and another sits nearby reading, creating an interesting depiction of everyday life behind the front during World War I.

The reverse is printed:

“Wohlfahrtskarte der Reichs-Spende”

The card originally sold for 10 Pfennig, with 3⅛ Pfennig allocated to the national foundation supporting the surviving dependents of soldiers killed in the war.

This example is postally used and dated 1918, with extensive handwritten correspondence on the reverse. The postage stamp is no longer present, but portions of the postal cancellation remain.
