Original World War I German military Feldpost postcard depicting German soldiers amid the heavily damaged buildings of Billig, with horse-drawn military wagons/carts and wartime destruction clearly visible.

The image is particularly interesting for the large group of uniformed German soldiers gathered among the ruins. Several wagons and pieces of military equipment can be seen along the road, giving the card an excellent Western Front / occupied territory appearance.

The front is simply captioned:

“Billig.”

The reverse identifies the publisher as Kunst- u. Verlagsanstalt Schaar & Dathe, Komm.-Ges. a. Akt., Trier and is numbered Nr. 218.

Written Date & Feldpost

The handwritten heading appears to read:

“Amagne, d. 15.2.15.”
— Amagne, February 15, 1915.

It is also specifically marked:

“Feldpostkarte”Field Post Card.

The card was addressed to Frau Martha Rasp… at Schmalkalden, Thüringen, with the address appearing to include Auer Gasse 28.

Message Translation

The short handwritten message appears to read approximately:

“Viele Grüße sendet Dir u. Deinen Dein Albert. Gruß Wiedersehn!”

Approximate English translation:

“Many greetings to you and yours from your Albert. Greetings, until we meet again!”

The old German handwriting makes a few words difficult to determine with absolute certainty, but it is clearly a brief wartime greeting from Albert.
