WWI Imperial German Military Feldpost Mail Postcard Marching Soldiers Oberkommando 1915

Original World War I German Feldpost postcard, mailed in March 1915, featuring an excellent colorized military scene showing a large formation of Imperial German soldiers marching through a village.

The soldiers are shown in early-war uniforms and Pickelhaube spiked helmets, carrying full field equipment and packs. Several men carry rifles, and the long column of troops disappearing behind the trees gives the card an especially impressive wartime appearance.

The printed caption at the lower left reads:

“Mittagessen auf dem Marsche.”

Translation:

“Midday meal while on the march.” / “Lunch during the march.”

The reverse is headed “Feldpostkarte” and was actually written and mailed during the war. The sender dates the message:

30.3.1915 – March 30, 1915

One of the strongest features is the large circular military postal marking reading:

“Feldpoststation des Oberkommandos der 7. Armee”

Translation:

“Field Post Station of the High Command of the 7th Army.”

This is a desirable identifiable German 7th Army Oberkommando Feldpost marking, tying the postcard directly to a major Imperial German Army formation during WWI.

The German 7th Army (7. Armee) served primarily on the Western Front, particularly in Alsace and the Vosges sector during the early part of the war. A dated March 1915 Feldpost card associated with its high-command postal organization makes for an interesting piece of Western Front postal history.

Handwritten Message

The old German handwriting is somewhat faded and difficult to decipher completely. It begins with a greeting to “Werte Johanna” (“Dear Johanna”) and appears to discuss receiving correspondence/packages and sends greetings. Because several words are indistinct, I would not claim a complete word-for-word translation, but the card is clearly personal correspondence sent home from military service.

Condition:
Original period-used postcard with normal age-related wear, toning, light soiling, edge/corner wear and handling marks. Writing and the important 7th Army Oberkommando Feldpost cancellation remain clearly visible. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition.
