WWI Imperial German Postcards East Prussia Dardanelles Aviation War Damage 1915

Original lot of 3 WWI-era German postcards from the “Der Krieg 1914/16 in Postkarten – 3. Musterreihe” series, issued in 1915 by the Ostpreußen-Hilfe (East Prussia Relief organization).

The backs state that the cards originally sold for 10 Pfennig, with 6 Pfennig benefiting relief efforts in East Prussia. All three are unused and feature interesting First World War subjects.

Cards included:

1. Gedenkstein in Lowitsch — Memorial stone at Lowitsch / Łowicz, showing uniformed German soldiers gathered around a stone monument bearing an Iron Cross. The floral display in front reads “Durchhalten”, roughly “Hold Out / Persevere.”
2. Zeno Diemer – Türkische Flieger über den Dardanellen — Dramatic aviation artwork by noted German painter Zeno Diemer, depicting Turkish/Ottoman military aircraft flying over the Dardanelles. An especially attractive WWI aviation and Ottoman/German alliance subject.
3. Stallupönen, Konditorei Rohde – Phot. Kühlewindt — Interior view of the heavily damaged Konditorei Rohde in Stallupönen, East Prussia, showing overturned furniture, debris and extensive destruction. Stallupönen was in an important combat area during the Russian invasion of East Prussia in 1914.

The reverse of each card is printed:

“Der Krieg 1914/16 in Postkarten – 3. Musterreihe”
“Verkaufspreis 10 Pf. Hiervon fließen der Hilfstätigkeit für Ostpreußen 6 Pf. zu.”

Translation:

“The War 1914/16 in Postcards – 3rd Sample Series. Selling price 10 Pfennig. Of this, 6 Pfennig goes toward relief work for East Prussia.”

Also marked “Herausgegeben von der Ostpreußen-Hilfe 1915” — “Published by East Prussia Relief, 1915.”

All three are authentic period postcards and remain unused. They show normal age-related toning and minor edge/corner wear consistent with material more than 100 years old. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition.

A very interesting small WWI grouping combining German military history, East Prussian war damage, Russian invasion history, Ottoman aviation, Dardanelles history, Iron Cross imagery and wartime charitable propaganda.
