WWI Imperial German Soldiers Feldpost Postcard Montmedy France Western Front

Original World War I German Feldpost postcard showing German military personnel at Montmédy, France, on the Western Front.

The printed caption on the front reads:

“Westlicher Kriegsschauplatz – Montmédy”

Translation:

“Western Theater of War – Montmédy.”

The image provides an excellent wartime street scene showing numerous German soldiers and military personnel positioned throughout the town. Several different styles of period uniforms and headgear can be seen, making this a particularly interesting image for collectors of Imperial German military history and WWI photography.

Montmédy is located in northeastern France near the Belgian border and was occupied by German forces during the opening stages of World War I. The postcard was produced as part of a series depicting scenes from the Western theater of operations.

The reverse is postally used and contains extensive original handwritten German correspondence. It also retains its period postal cancellation. No postage stamp is present, consistent with military Feldpost usage where qualifying military mail could be sent postage-free.
