WWII German 1942 Madagaskar Sailor Song Postcard Feldpost Military Mail

Original WWII-era German postcard featuring the popular sailor’s song “Madagaskar” (Wir lagen vor Madagaskar) with music credited to Robert Wanner. The front depicts a passenger/transport ship approaching a tropical island and includes several verses of the song.

The reverse is particularly interesting. It was actually mailed during WWII and postmarked 30.10.42 (October 30, 1942). It also bears a purple military/Feldpost-style unit or censor stamp with eagle, making this a much more interesting example than an unused song card.

Published by Verlag Karl Wülbern, Hamburg 36.

The handwritten message appears to be a short personal greeting to the recipient. The address appears to include Rheinsberg (Mark), Seestraße 9.

Condition is as shown, with expected age, handling and postal wear, including corner/edge wear, toning and some staining/marks on the reverse. Please examine photos carefully for exact condition.

A nice original wartime piece combining German postal history, Feldpost/military interest, maritime imagery and WWII-era popular music.
