Offered here is an excellent original WWII German Police division Feldpost correspondence grouping consisting of 23 mailed covers/envelopes with letters and postcards, all connected to the same soldier, Erich Landskroner, and his family in Dortmund-Sölde, Germany.

Unlike an assembled assortment of unrelated wartime mail, this is a single-soldier correspondence archive that was preserved together. The material spans several wartime years, with visible dates ranging approximately from 1941 through 1944.

The correspondence is associated with Feldpostnummer 37049 C, a police unit making the grouping especially interesting for further unit and genealogical research. Feldpostnummer 37049 was assigned to Polizei-Bataillon 314 and later III. Bataillon, Polizei-Regiment 10. The Feldpost-number database gives this progression: from 28 February–29 July 1941, 37049 covered the staff and 1st–4th Companies of Polizei-Bataillon 314; by 1942–43, it covered the staff of III Battalion and 7th–9th Companies of Polizei-Regiment 10; in late 1943 it covered III Battalion and 9th–11th Companies; and by July 1944, III Battalion and 9th–12th Companies of Polizei-Regiment 10.

A particularly nice feature is the amount of postal and Feldpost material still present. The grouping includes handwritten letters retained with their Feldpost envelopes as well as numerous mailed picture postcards. Many pieces bear clear wartime postal markings, including Feldpost handstamps, military unit/eagle handstamps, Frankfurt/Oder cancellations and other wartime postal markings. Several postcards were sent without conventional postage under the military Feldpost system, while at least one example carries a 6 Pfennig Deutsches Reich definitive stamp.

The postcards provide a surprisingly broad visual record and include:

  • Numerous Frankfurt an der Oder views, including the Oder River and bridge, government building, city streets, monuments, church architecture and the Steile Wand river landscape.
  • A particularly interesting Frankfurt/Oder postcard captioned “Grenadierdenkmal am Adolf-Hitler-Platz.”
  • Kyffhäuser Monument postcard with printed Third Reich-era emblem and a 1943 postal use.
  • “Der Eiserne Wehrmann – Frankfurt a. Oder” patriotic monument postcard.
  • Kaiser Wilhelm monument.
  • Illustrated humorous/color postcards, including dwarf and rabbit scenes.
  • Christmas bells “Weihnachtsgrüße” card.
  • Birthday roses card.
  • Mother’s Day greeting card.
  • Scenic and architectural postcards.
  • Several attractive color landscape cards.

The correspondence is repeatedly addressed to the Landskroner family at Priemelstraße 11, Dortmund-Sölde, which helps establish the continuity of the grouping. Several cards are specifically addressed to Heinrich Landskroner, while the surviving letters provide considerably more handwritten family correspondence than is normally encountered in a loose postcard lot.

Of particular collector interest are the numerous wartime postal markings visible throughout the archive. Several cards show large Feldpost cachets accompanied by military eagle insignia, while others retain dated civilian postal cancellations. Dates visible in the grouping include examples from 1941, 1942, 1943 and 1944, allowing the correspondence to be followed across a substantial portion of the war.

The handwritten letters are especially desirable because they remain associated with their original envelopes. They provide substantial period German-language correspondence rather than simply short postcard greetings and offer excellent potential for translation and further research into Erich Landskroner, Feldpostnummer 37049 C, his wartime service and the Landskroner family in Dortmund-Sölde.

All pieces are period originals and show expected age and postal handling, including toning, edge wear, handling marks, occasional staining, folds and other normal signs of wartime use. Please examine the photographs carefully for the exact contents and condition of the grouping.

A very nice intact single-soldier WWII German Feldpost archive with letters, envelopes, illustrated postcards, Feldpost markings, dated cancellations and family provenance. An excellent research grouping for the collector of German military postal history, Feldpost, WWII correspondence, Third Reich postal history or Frankfurt/Oder material.

Sold together as one 23-piece grouping exactly as shown.
