WWII Nazi German Anti Bolshevism Third Reich Christmas Card Hand Drawn 1941 Eastern Front

Original WWII German Feldpost Christmas postcard, featuring a completely hand-drawn and hand-colored Christmas scene on the front and a handwritten message from a German soldier on the reverse.

The front is inscribed:

“FROHE WEIHNACHTEN”
Translation: “Merry Christmas.”

The soldier drew a winter scene showing a snow-covered building or quarters with heavy icicles, a small window with colored details, a road or path and another structure in the distance. This appears to have been individually created by the sender rather than commercially printed, giving the card excellent personal character.

The reverse is an official Feldpost postcard. The sender is listed as Gefreiter Albert Anderl, with Feldpostnummer 06074. It is addressed to Herrn Engelbert Anderl.

The card bears two attractive period military postal markings, including a Feldpost cancellation dated 9.12.41 with the German eagle and swastika and an additional purple Dienststelle/Feldpost type unit marking.

The handwritten message begins with a Christmas greeting and appears to include:

“Recht herzliche Weihnachtsgrüße sendet aus weiter Ferne Euer Fredl.”

Approximate translation:

“Very heartfelt Christmas greetings sent from far away, your Fredl.”

The remainder sends greetings to family members.

Printed along the bottom is a wartime propaganda statement concerning the fight against Bolshevism:

“Das deutsche Volk ist sich bewußt, daß es dazu berufen ist, die gesamte Kulturwelt von den tödlichen Gefahren des Bolschewismus zu retten und den Weg für einen wahren sozialen Aufstieg in Europa frei zu machen.”

Translation:

“The German people are conscious that they are called upon to save the entire civilized world from the deadly dangers of Bolshevism and to clear the way for genuine social advancement in Europe.”
