WWII German Concentration Camp KAPO Armband – Yellow Star of David – Embroidered Vintage Reproduction
An older vintage reproduction of a WWII-era concentration camp identification armband featuring a yellow Star of David with black embroidered outlines and the word “KAPO” prominently embroidered across the center.
The star is attached to a white cotton cloth armband with finished edges. The material displays age-related staining, discoloration, and wrinkles.
Historical Background:
The term Kapo was used within the Nazi concentration camp system to describe prisoners assigned supervisory responsibilities over other inmates.
Kap os were part of the prisoner-functionary system established by the SS to help administer forced labor, maintain camp discipline, and supervise groups of prisoners.
Their responsibilities could include overseeing labor details, distributing instructions, and reporting to SS personnel.
Some Kapos used their positions to abuse fellow prisoners, while others attempted to protect inmates or improve conditions where possible. Their circumstances and behavior varied considerably.
Kapos were selected from different prisoner categories, including political prisoners, criminal prisoners, and Jewish prisoners.
The SS retained ultimate control over the concentration camp system.
Although the term Kapo is historically documented, this particular yellow Star of David and KAPO combination should be understood as a reproduction interpretation rather than an authenticated standard camp-issued armband design.
