WWII Nazi German Jewish Holocaust Ghetto Polizei Armband – Star of David

Older vintage reproduction of a WWII-era Jewish Ghetto Police identification armband.

The design features a large blue Star of David with the German inscription:

“JÜDISCHE GHETTO POLIZEI”

Translation: “Jewish Ghetto Police.”

The inscription is printed in black across the blue Star of David on off-white cotton fabric.

The armband has folded and stitched edges, with visible staining, discoloration, and storage wrinkles.

Historical Background

During World War II, German occupation authorities established ghettos throughout occupied Eastern Europe, forcing Jewish populations into segregated and frequently overcrowded districts.

Within many ghettos, Jewish police formations were organized under the supervision of Jewish Councils, known as Judenräte.

These units were generally called the Jüdischer Ordnungsdienst, or Jewish Order Service.

Their responsibilities initially included maintaining order, directing movement, assisting with sanitation regulations, and enforcing administrative instructions.

As Nazi persecution intensified, German authorities increasingly compelled Jewish police units to participate in roundups, forced-labor operations, and deportations.

The experiences and actions of individual police units varied considerably. Their members operated under the authority of the occupying regime and faced severe coercion.

Identification armbands were important because Jewish police personnel generally did not wear conventional military or police uniforms.

This reproduction uses the designation Jüdische Ghetto Polizei. The exact historical ghetto and original pattern represented by this particular design have not been verified.
