WWII Nazi German Luftwaffe Officer Gold Metal Breast Eagle – Assmann

Offered here is a very high-quality reproduction of a WWII German Luftwaffe General Officer’s gold metal breast eagle, patterned after the removable metal insignia worn on the white summer uniform.

This impressive insignia features the distinctive Luftwaffe eagle in flight with outstretched wings, clutching a swastika in its talons. The entire piece has an attractive gold-colored finish with excellent definition throughout the individual wing and body feathers.

Original Luftwaffe metal breast eagles of this type were produced as removable insignia for the white summer tunic, allowing them to be easily removed when the uniform was cleaned. While officers below General rank wore silver-colored metal eagles, General officers wore gold-colored versions.

The reverse features a long horizontal pin, hinge and retaining catch, closely following the traditional construction of period metal summer-uniform eagles.

Of particular interest is the “A” maker mark on the reverse. This represents F. W. Assmann & Söhne of Lüdenscheid, a major German manufacturer of military insignia and decorations. Original Assmann-manufactured Luftwaffe metal breast eagles are documented with the characteristic “A” marking, and surviving gold General Officer examples by Assmann are also known.

The gold finish identifies this as the considerably more distinctive General Officer version, associated with ranks from Generalmajor through Generalfeldmarschall.

The combination of its brilliant gold finish, highly detailed feathering, period-style pin construction and Assmann-style maker marking gives this reproduction an excellent display appearance.

IMPORTANT: This is a modern high-quality reproduction and is NOT being represented or sold as an original pre-1945 manufactured insignia.

Excellent for a Luftwaffe General Officer uniform display, white summer tunic restoration, reenactment, historical exhibit, replacement insignia or WWII militaria collection.

Please examine all photographs carefully for exact construction, maker marking, finish and condition. Sold exactly as shown.
