WWII Nazi German Luftwaffe Spanish Cross in Gold with Swords & Diamonds

Offered here is an exceptional museum-quality reproduction of the WWII German Spanish Cross in Gold with Swords and Diamonds (Spanienkreuz in Gold mit Schwertern und Brillanten), the highest and by far the rarest grade of the Spanish Cross.

The Spanish Cross was instituted in April 1939 to recognize German personnel who had served with the Legion Condor during the Spanish Civil War of 1936–1939. The Gold with Swords and Diamonds grade was reserved for exceptional combat leadership and outstanding military merit. Only 28 awards of this highest grade were made, predominantly to Luftwaffe personnel.

This museum-quality reproduction captures the elaborate appearance of this extraordinarily rare decoration. The large gold-colored cross features finely textured cross arms with raised polished borders, crossed swords, and four detailed Luftwaffe eagles positioned between the arms. Each eagle carries a swastika, while the center features the prominent circular swastika medallion.

Surrounding the center medallion is a ring of 14 clear simulated stones, recreating the jeweled appearance that distinguished the highest grade from the standard Spanish Cross in Gold with Swords. Documented period presentation examples likewise feature 14 stones surrounding the central medallion.

The reverse has a smooth gold-colored surface with a substantial vertical pin, barrel-style hinge and retaining catch, allowing the decoration to be worn on the uniform in the traditional manner. The Spanish Cross was worn as a pin-back decoration on the right breast of the uniform.

The original Gold with Swords and Diamonds was an exceptionally prestigious award. In comparison with the mere 28 Diamond-grade awards, approximately 1,126 Spanish Crosses in Gold with Swords without Diamonds were awarded, illustrating just how scarce the highest grade was.

The combination of its large size, brilliant gold-colored finish, multiple Luftwaffe eagles, crossed swords, finely textured surfaces and simulated jeweled center makes this a particularly impressive museum and display-quality reproduction.

IMPORTANT: This is a modern museum-quality reproduction with simulated stones and is NOT being represented or sold as an original 1939/pre-1945 manufactured award.

Excellent for a Legion Condor collection, Luftwaffe display, Spanish Civil War historical exhibit, reenactment, museum display, replacement decoration or advanced WWII militaria collection.
