WWII Nazi German Third Reich Telegram Envelope 1943 Reichspost Eagle Swastika Brieftelegramm

Original WWII-era German Reichspost telegram envelope, an interesting piece of Third Reich communications and postal history dating from 1943.

The front is boldly printed in red with “Telegramm” beneath the German national eagle and swastika emblem. It includes a large window for the recipient information and the printed notation:

At the lower left is the printed date/code “S.W. 3.43,” which appears consistent with a March 1943 printing or form issue.

The reverse is particularly attractive, featuring another large eagle and swastika emblem along with:

“Inliegend Telegramm!”
Telegram enclosed!

Below is an advertisement for the German Brieftelegramm service:

“Brieftelegramme – schneller als der Brief, billiger als das Telegramm. Wortgebühr 5 Rpf!”

Translation:

“Letter telegrams – faster than a letter, cheaper than a telegram. Word fee 5 Reichspfennig!”

This is a nice example of the specialized envelopes used by the German postal/telegraph system for delivering telegram communications during WWII.

The envelope appears to have been genuinely used and has handwritten recipient information on the front. The original telegram contents are not present.

Condition: Heavily used original condition with considerable edge wear, tears, creasing, paper loss and opening damage, particularly along the upper edge and flap. Despite the wear, the red printing, eagle/swastika emblems and advertising text remain quite strong and display well. Please examine all photographs carefully.
