WWII Nazi German Third Reich Wartime Letter 1944 Coburg w Cover Adolf Hitler Stamp

Original WWII-era German handwritten letter dated August 22, 1942, preserved together with its original addressed envelope.

The letter is headed:

What appears to be: “Gorja, den 22.8.42”
Translation: “Gorja, August 22, 1942”

It begins:

“Mein lieber kleiner Walter!”
Translation: “My dear little Walter!”

The letter is written in German cursive and contains personal wartime family correspondence. The writer mentions having received two cards, refers to family members and discusses plans involving the coming Sunday. The closing sends heartfelt greetings to the recipient and others.

Because portions of the handwriting are difficult to decipher with certainty, I have not attempted to invent a complete word-for-word translation. The original writing is clearly visible in the photographs and offers an interesting research opportunity for collectors of WWII correspondence and German handwritten documents.

The original envelope accompanies the letter and is addressed to a “Fräulein” (Miss) with the handwritten recipient name appearing to be Algi/Ally Heim. The fact that the original letter and envelope have remained together makes this a much more interesting historical grouping than a loose wartime letter. It provides a personal glimpse into ordinary German-language correspondence during 1942, at the height of WWII.
