WWII Nazi German Wehrmacht Heer Army Officer Gold Metal Breast Eagle – Assmann

Offered here is a very high-quality reproduction of a WWII German Wehrmacht Heer General Officer’s gold metal breast eagle, patterned after the removable metal insignia worn with the white summer uniform.

The impressive insignia features the traditional spread-winged Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreath and swastika. It has a brilliant gold-colored finish with sharply defined feathering throughout the wings, breast and head.

Metal pin-back breast eagles were authorized for the Heer officer’s white summer tunic. Rank was indicated by finish: regular officers wore silver-colored examples, while officers from Generalmajor through Generalfeldmarschall wore gilt/gold-colored breast eagles.

The reverse features a long horizontal pin, hinge and retaining catch, allowing the eagle to be attached to a uniform in the traditional removable manner. This was particularly practical on the washable white summer tunic.

Of particular interest is the “A” maker mark on the reverse. This represents F. W. Assmann & Söhne of Lüdenscheid, a documented manufacturer of these metal uniform eagles. Period Assmann examples are known with the distinctive A manufacturer mark.

This gold version represents the considerably more distinctive General Officer pattern, making it an especially impressive companion to the silver officer version.

The combination of its substantial size, bright gold appearance, crisp detailing, period-style pin construction and Assmann marking makes this an excellent display-quality reproduction.
